Over half of health care providers noncompliant with HIPAA access rules

Some patients who request their medical records still do not receive them within the legally mandated 30-day period or in the format requested, says Deven McGraw, chief regulatory officer at Ciitizen and a former HHS Office for Civil Rights official. An updated scorecard from Ciitizen found compliance with HIPAA Right of Access rules has risen, but 51% of health care providers are noncompliant.
